BOONE, N.C. — App State edge rusher
Nate Johnson has been named a first-team Freshman All-American by The Athletic.
Johnson heads into bowl season tied for first place nationally in sacks by a freshman with 7.5. In addition to that total, he has 8.5 tackles for loss, 39 tackles and 36 quarterback pressures this season.
Johnson was named second-team All-Sun Belt late in the regular season, and On3.com recognized him as a True Freshman All-American earlier this month.
Arriving in Boone after App State lost fellow outside linebackers
Nick Hampton (2023 NFL Draft) and
Jalen McLeod (transfer to Auburn) following the 2022 season, Johnson had multiple sacks in road games against James Madison and Old Dominion. He also produced sacks against East Carolina, Wyoming and ULM over three straight games and finished the regular season with half a sack against Georgia Southern.
