BOONE, N.C. -- App State men's basketball is set to host Coastal Carolina in its third Sun Belt contest on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Holmes Center.
The contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ with live stats and listening options available to follow along.
THE SERIES
- This will be the 13th meeting between the two schools in a series that App State leads 9-3.
- The Black & Gold have won the last four meetings, including an 84-76 overtime victory on the road on Jan. 15, 2022. Donovan Gregory posted 20 points in that contest.
- Two of the last three matchups went into overtime, while the other was a one-point finish.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS (7-8, 0-2 SBC)
- Gregory and Tyree Boykin lead the team in scoring, each recording 11.5 points per game. Gregory had a 16-point outing in App State's win over Louisville and a season-high 21 against Campbell. Last week, Boykin scored 20 points for the second time this season during his first Sun Belt game at Marshall.
- The Mountaineers average 29.1 bench points per game, the 28th-highest mark in the nation (third in the SBC).
- Justin Abson ranks 21st in the country in blocks (31).
- CJ Huntley has led the Mountaineers on the glass this season eight times, averaging six boards per game.
SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS (7-6, 1-1 SBC)
- Coastal Carolina split its first conference-play weekend at home, defeating Louisiana 77-76 before falling to Georgia Southern, 64-73.
- Jomaru Brown leads the Chanticleers in scoring this season. Last weekend, the super senior posted a team-high 28 in the win over Louisiana and 12 against Georgia Southern. He tallied 28 earlier this season against USC Upstate.
- Essam Mostafa has pulled down a team-high 10.6 rebounds, including 16 against USC Upstate. Last game, the redshirt junior posted 15 points and 13 rebounds. Mostafa has the third-most double-doubles in the country, and first in the Sun Belt (9).
- Coastal Carolina ranks 10th in the nation in free throw percentage (78.6), led by Brown, who is 52-57 (91.2%).
