HARRISONBURG, Va. – The App State volleyball team fell, 3-0, to JMU in its second match against the Dukes on Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va. The Mountaineers opened conference action against JMU on Friday evening, falling 3-0 in their first clash with the Dukes.

Lulu Ambrose led the team in kills, tallying nine on the afternoon. Freshman
Maya Winterhoff led the team in blocks with three.
Sophie Cain tallied a team-high of 14 assists and freshman
Kenady Roper posted 10 digs. Seniors

Sam Bickley as well as junior
Cierra Huntley, Ambrose, and Winterhoff recorded one ace each.
App State broke even with the Dukes in aces, each tallying five.
The Mountaineers trailed JMU in the first set, continually chipping away at the Dukes' lead. Early in the set, junior
Meghan Dombrowski recorded a kill to put the Mountaineers within one, at 6-5. Late in the first set, Dombrowski registered another kill and junior
Madison Baldridge and Winterhoff went up for a block to cut the Dukes' lead to 19-16. With the Dukes up 20-16, App State posted two more points from a JMU service error and a kill from Ambrose to come within two (20-18). Down 23-19, Ambrose made a late kill, but it wasn't enough to push past the Dukes. JMU took the first set, 25-20.
In the second set, the Dukes jumped to a commanding 5-0 lead early. Winterhoff put the Mountaineers on the board with a kill to make the score 5-1. JMU built off their early lead, creating a 13-3 deficit the Mountaineers struggled to recover from. App State mustered a four-point run of their own that included a kill from sophomore
Lily Harvey, block from Winterhoff and Ambrose, ace from Denny, and two JMU errors, to cut the Dukes' lead to 20-13. Despite another late kill from Ambrose, the Mountaineers fell, 25-14, in the second set.
The Mountaineers tied things up early in the third set at 4-4 with an ace from Winterhoff. Dombrowski later broke a 5-5 tie with a kill. Up 6-5, Denny made a solo block that was followed by a block from Harvey and senior
Sarah Missroon to extend the Mountaineers' lead to 8-5. JMU caught up with a 4-0 run. Ambrose tied things up at 11 with a kill and tied things up again at 13 all with another kill. Late in the third set, with JMU leading 22-20, App State went on a 3-0 scoring run with a kill from Ambrose, JMU error, and ace from Huntley. JMU answered with a 3-0 run of their own to take the third and final set 25-23 and the match, 3-0.
