Box Score 2 ATHENS, Ga. — App State Softball improved to 4-0 at the Bulldog Classic on Saturday, winning 9-2 against UMass and 7-0 against Ohio.
The Mountaineers wrap up play in Athens with a Sunday afternoon finale against No. 15 Georgia.
GAME 1 RECAP
Kayt Houston went 3-for-4 with two home runs, one double, five RBIs and three runs scored.
McKenize McCullen also homered for the Mountaineers in support of pitcher
Delani Buckner, who struck out 10 batters and allowed one earned run with a complete-game effort that pushed her record to 5-1 (with the only loss coming in an extra-inning relief appearance).
Houston hit an RBI double in the first inning, a two-run homer in the fourth inning and another two-run homer in a fourth-run seventh inning. McCullen also hit a two-run homer in the seventh.
Addie Wray also had a multi-hit game for App State, while
Emma Jones and
Emily Parrott scored two runs apiece from the top of the order.
GAME 2 RECAP
Taylor Nichols struck out six batters in a complete-game shutout, and App State took early control thanks to
Emma Jones' three-run homer during a four-run second inning. That blast followed a bases-loaded sac fly from Wray.
The Mountaineers added three more runs in the third on
Addison Jones' RBI double and
Kennedy Upshire's two-run single.
