Field Hockey Welcomes Bellarmine for Home Weekend Series

BOONE, N.C. - App State is set to host Bellarmine in a nonconference home series starting Saturday at noon from Brandon & Erica M. Adcock Field.

The Mountaineers enter the weekend eyeing to extend a two-game win streak coming off of back-to-back road stretches. On April 2-3, App State swept Mid-American Conference foe Ohio to improve to 5-5 overall and 4-4 in MAC play.

At 4-4 in conference, the Black and Gold currently sits second in the MAC standings behind undefeated conference leader Miami (OH) at 6-0. With no conference tournament being played this spring season, the regular-season standings champion will advance to the NCAA Tournament.

Bellarmine enters the weekend still looking to clinch their first win of the season as the Knights are off to a 0-8 start. Bellarmine is 0-6 against MAC opponents this spring. In goal for the Knights, Brenna McWhorter has recorded a total of 71 saves this season and leads the nation in saves per game averaging 8.875.

Senior Meghan Smart will offensively lead the App State attack this weekend and also leads the MAC in goals scored, tied for first, with six through 10 contests. Smart has also accounted for 16 total points this season, tying a career-high.

Weather permitting, both Saturday and Sunday's matchups, the first ever between the Mountaineers and the Knights, will be live streamed through Twitch.
