BOONE, N.C. - App State field hockey will battle Longwood in a two-game, season-series finale Friday and Saturday.
The Mountaineers (7-7, 4-6 MAC) enter the final weekend of the spring season eyeing to correct a two-game skid after a hard-fought road series at No. 18 Miami. App State is also eyeing to close out 2021 campaign with back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1998.
Despite only scoring once during the last series outing, the Mountaineers remained atop the Mid-American Conference in total goals scored, tied for first with 35. Individually, senior
Meghan Smart also still leads the conference in goals scored with 12 on the year.
Longwood (6-5, 4-5 MAC) races into town winners of three out of its last four contests. At 4-5 in the conference action, the Lancers currently place fourth overall.
Defensively, Longwood is tied for second in the MAC in goals allowed this season, surrendering only 14. The Lancers are also tied for second in the conference in total corners earned with 81 on the year.
On the attack side of the ball for Longwood, senior Karly Harwood has recorded two game-winnng goals and is the team's co-leader in goals scored this season at five.
The Mountaineer-Lancer matchups are set for Friday and Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brandon and Erica M. Adcock Field in Boone, North Carolina. Saturday is also senior day as App State will celebrate the career efforts of six outstanding senior student-athletes:
