Field Hockey On the Road Again, Faces Ohio Friday and Saturday

BOONE, N.C. - App State field hockey travels north to battle Ohio in a two-game, Mid-American Conference road series starting Friday.

The Mountaineers (3-5, 2-4 MAC) enter the weekend eyeing to correct a two-game skid and keep pace in the MAC standings. On March 26-27, App State lost back-to-back hard-fought battles at Kent State 3-2 and 1-0.

Ohio (2-4, 2-3 MAC) enters the series versus App State fresh off a series split with Central Michigan last weekend. Defensively, the Bobcats have only surrendered 1.92 goals per game this spring season, 10 total goals through six games.

Offensively, Ohio averages 11 shots per contest, and senior Jillian Shive has scored four of Ohio's seven goals.

For App State, senior Meghan Smart offensively leads the Black and Gold and is currently tied for first in the MAC in goals scored with five. Smart found the back of the cage twice in the game one loss at Kent State.

In 2019, the Mountaineers split with the Bobcats, losing 6-5 at home but winning in the conference tournament quarterfinal matchup 5-4 in OT. However, Ohio holds a 3-2 all-time series lead over App State dating back to 2015.

Both Friday and Saturday's matchups will be live streamed through YouTube. Friday's first touch is scheduled for 1 p.m., while Saturday's official start time is set for 1:30 p.m.
