BOONE, N.C. - App State field hockey travels to Kent State for a two-game road series starting Friday.
This weekend's matchup will be App State's first road conference series of the spring season. The Mountaineers posted a 5-4 record on the road in 2019.
"Our group is excited to get on the road this weekend," head coach Megan Dawson said. "We're going to be tested by a talented Kent State team. Being on the road is always a great time for our group to come together and bond."
Kent State was picked second in the 2021 Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll and enters the weekend 3-1 overall and 1-1 in MAC play. The Golden Flashes are riding a three-game win streak in which they have outscored their opponents 17-1 and have posted back-to-back shutout wins.
App State enters Friday off of a dominate 6-1 preformance over Central Michigan last Sunday. Six different goal scorers lifted the Mountaineers to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the MAC. With the win, App State currently sits tied for second in the conference standings.
Meghan Smart and Grace Ball have both led the Mountaineers in goal scoring this season with three goals apiece. Smart and Ball currently ranks tied for third in the conference in total goals scored.
Kent State's Clara Rodriguez is second in the MAC for total goals with four through four games this season. Rodriguez was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week for her play against Bellarmine, scoring four goals and recording two assists.
In 2019, the Golden Flashes defeated in the Mountaineers 3-0 in Boone, and Kent State holds a 3-0 all-time series lead over App State dating to back to 2017.
Both Friday and Saturday's contests are scheduled for a noon start at Murphy-Mellis Field from Kent, Ohio.
