SALEM, Va. — With App State Wrestling underclassmen making their season debuts, the Mountaineers had three finalists and five top-four finishes at the Southeast Open on Sunday.
Heath Gonyer (141 pounds),
Will Miller (165) and
Jacob Sartorio (heavyweight) were runners-up in their weight classes in the Freshman/Sophomore division.
Chad Bellis (125) and
Jacob Barlow (heavyweight) also reached the semifinal round before placing fourth.
App State's fifth-place finishes came from
Tommy Askey (157),
Wyatt Miller (197) and
Tyler Kellison (141, Open division), while
Oren Bost (165) and
Triston Norris (197) placed sixth.
Gonyer went 4-1, Sartorio posted a 3-1 record and
Will Miller had a 3-1 mark in Salem. In the finals, they dropped decisions by scores of 7-3, 3-1 and 5-2, respectively.
