LOUISVILLE, KY - App State field hockey rallied offensively in a 4-2 victory on MAC opponent Bellarmine's home turf Sunday.
In the first two minutes of the game, senior midfielder Friederike Stegen assisted Pauline Mangold on a corner play to give the Mountaineers an early advantage.Â
With that assist, Stegen recorded her fifth of the season and broke the program record for career assists with 23, passing former player Taylor Cimbalist.Â
In the second period, junior forward Sarah Farrell secured App State's second goal off of Mangold's assist to give her team a two point lead at the half. Farrell leads the Mountaineers in goals this season with four.
In the third period, Bellarmine picked up a little bit of momentum offensively, but they were never able to even up the score.
Two minutes after the Knights' first goal, Charlotte Bosma scored off of a rebound on the other side of the field.Â
Bellarmine scored once more before Anna Smarrelli scored off a corner goal. Mangold inserted and Sterre Molkenboer set up Smarrelli for the last goal of the game.Â
Mangold finished with one goal and two assists, and now has three goals and four assists on the season.
On the defensive end, Addie Clark, Grace Ball and Brenna Schoenbachler never subbed out for the Mountaineers, each finishing with 60 minutes.
App State evened up both of their records with this win, now being 5-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
After Sunday's win, the Mountaineers will have one more MAC road game before returning home. They are headed to Farmville, VA on October 15 to face Longwood, who is 2-2 in conference play.
