Men's Basketball to Host Coastal Carolina in Sun Belt Tournament Second Round

BOONE, N.C. -- Sixth seed App State men's basketball will host 10th seed Coastal Carolina in the Second Round of the Sun Belt Tournament on Monday evening at 7 p.m. on ESPN+ and the Appalachian Sports Network from Learfield IMG College.

APP STATE IN THE SUN BELT TOURNAMENT
  • App State will make its fourth consecutive appearance in the Sun Belt Tournament
  • The Mountaineers own a 1-3 mark all-time in the tournament
  • Last season, the Mountaineers were seeded 10 and fell at seventh seed ULM in the first round

THE SERIES
  • This will be the ninth all-time meeting between the two teams, with App State holding a 5-3 edge
  • The two teams split the season series with each team winning on the road. App State won in Conway 78-58 on Jan. 25, while the Chanticleers won in Boone on Feb. 29 by an 84-77 score
  • The two teams have never met in the Sun Belt Tournament
EARLIER THIS SEASON
  • On Jan. 25 in Conway, App State never trailed en route to a 78-58 win. Isaac Johnson tied his career-high with 22 points, while adding six rebounds and three steals. Justin Forrest finished with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists. O'Showen Williams added a near double-double with 17 points on 6-of-10 (60.0 percent) shooting and nine rebounds. Off the bench, Kendall Lewis had 10 points and five rebounds.
  • In Boone on Feb. 29, App State trimmed a 19-point second half decifit to just four points, before ultimately falling 84-77. O'Showen Williams finished with a team-high 19 points. Isaac Johnson added a double-double with 17 points, a game-high tying 12 rebounds and three assists. Hunter Seacat added his second double-double of the season with a season-high tying 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State went 17-14 in the regular season and 11-9 in conference play to earn the No 6 seed
  • App State's 17 overall wins are most since 2009-10, when the Mountaineers won 23 games. App State's 11 conference wins are the most for the program since joining the Sun Belt and most since 2009-10, when the Mountaineers won 13 Southern Conference contests

  • No. 10 seed Coastal Carolina stands at 16-16 on the season and advanced to the Second Round with a thrilling 63-62 win at seventh seed UT Arlington on Saturday
  • Tyrell Gumbs-Frater drained a jumper with one second remaining to give the Chanticleers the win. DeVante' Jones tallied 31 points, 14 rebounds and five assists and Tommy Burton added 11 points and six rebounds
  • Jones leads the team in scoring at 17.0 points and is tops in the league in total assists (178)
  • As a team, the Chanticleers lead the Sun Belt in rebounding (40.6 rpg) and rebounding margin (+6.3), while ranking second in scoring offense (78.4)
