BOONE, N.C. – A six-run first inning highlighted by junior
Jack Lipson's grand slam powered App State's baseball team to a 7-5 victory over Siena. The Mountaineers stretched their win streak to five games in their first home game of the season at Jim & Bettie Smith Stadium.
After sophomore
Luke Drumheller smacked a double down the right-field line with one away in the opening inning, the next four Mountaineers reached base to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Junior
Andrew Greckel guided a single through the right side of the infield to score Drumheller from second, giving the Mountaineers a 1-0 lead. App State then doubled its lead when senior
Robbie Young was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
With two away, Lipson cleared the bases with his first home run of the season, clearing the wall in left field to plate Young, junior
Kendall McGowan and Young.
Lipson then extended App State's lead to 7-0 with an RBI single to left field in the third inning. Lipson finished with a 2-for-5 day at the plate with five RBIs.

Cam Roberts earned the win in his first midweek start of the season, delivering five scoreless innings to begin the game. Sophomore

Noah Hall locked down the win for Roberts, giving up just one earned run in 3.2 innings of relief.
Hall, who pitched the game's final 2.1 innings, allowed just one hit and struck out four batters to earn his first save as a Mountaineer. Hall lowered his ERA to 1.80 on the season, striking out 21 batters in 20 innings pitched this season.
Siena (0-16) scored four runs in the sixth and another run in the fifth to cut App State's lead to 7-5. Jonathan Crimmin and Jake Hall paced the Saints with two RBIs each.
The Mountaineers close out their two-game home series on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Sophomore
Shane Roberts will make the start for App State on the mound.
