ATHENS, Ga. - App State women's basketball fell to Georgia 107-44Â on Tuesday afternoon at Stegeman Coliseum.Â
The Mountaineers head into Sun Belt play with a 3-3 mark while Georgia improves to 9-0.Â
Lainey Gosnell tied a season high and led the team with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Michaela Porter scored six points and both
Pre Stanley and
Janay Sanders each scored five.Â
Georgia jumped out to a 17-10 lead with 3:22 left in the first before
Dane Bertolina sparked an 8-4 run that cut the lead to three, 21-18. Stanley nailed a trifecta of her own followed by a pair of free throws from Sanders to give the Apps some momentum. However, the hosts scored the final four points to go into the second period with a 25-18 advantage.Â
Both teams got off to a solid start on offense in the first quarter combining to shoot over the 50 percent from the field with eight 3-pointers. However, the second quarter set the tone for the rest of the contest with UGA shooting over 70 percent from the field and holding the App State offense in check, leading to UGA pulling away.
