FOLEY, Ala. - App State women's soccer fell to No. 1W seed Arkansas State in a hard-fought battle, 1-0, on Wednesday evening in the quarterfinal round of the Sun Belt Championship held in Foley, Ala.

The Mountaineers fall to 5-9-1 while Arkansas State improves to 9-1-1 and advances to the semifinals.

It was a valiant effort against the top-seeded team from the West Division. Appalachian withstood a flurry of shot attempts by the Red Wolves as they attempted 21. Kerry Eagleston stopped five shots in 90 minutes of action, including four in the first 24 minutes of the contest.

Sarah Sodoma scored the match's only goal in the 23rd minute when she headed in the goal from Hailey Furio, leading to a 1-0 going into the half.

App State stayed on the visitors' heels the entire night. However, the Apps attempted only five shots with one coming on goal by Jordan Grigsby in the 37th minute that was saved by Megan McClure. Arkansas State came in as the top defensive team in the Sun Belt, allowing three goals all season.

The Mountaineers ended the fall, winning three of their final five matches highlighted by a postseason win in the Sun Belt Championship.
