NEW ORLEANS -- Over 200 Appalachian State student-athletes were recognized by the Sun Belt conference on Thursday. One hundred and twelve athletes were named to the Sun Belt Honor Roll, while 102 student-athletes were named to the Commissioner's List.
The Commissioner's List honors student-athletes who maintained a 3.5 grade point average or better during the 2018-19 academic year and the Academic Honor Roll honors those student-athletes who maintained a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 for the academic year.
App State boasted the highest number of student-athletes named to the Honor Roll with 112, followed by Troy with 101. On the Commissioner's List, Appalachian had the second most student-athletes with 102. App State had the second-most student-athletes between the two lists with 214 total.
With a team GPA of 3.39, Appalachian State women's track and field finished with the highest GPA of any Sun Belt women's track and field program during the 2018-19 season. A total of 10 App State teams had GPAs over 3.0 for the academic year.
Since its 2014-15 transition to the Sun Belt Conference for all but two sports (wrestling and field hockey), App State has paced the league in academic performance among its student-athletes. In the 2016-17 academic year, App State won the Sun Belt Institutional Graduation Rate Award for the second time in three years. App State also led all Sun Belt schools this year with a school-record 14 teams that achieved a
perfect 1,000 single-year APR score.
