BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State (25-9) won both games of the midweek doubleheader against NC Central on Wednesday. The Mountaineers won 3-0 in the first game and 7-1 in the second.
With the wins, the Mountaineers continue the incredible success with their 25th win of the season. They are the first App State team to do so since the 2013 season.
Game 1
Sydney Holland picked up the win in the circle for game one, bringing her record to 8-5 on the year. Holland allowed only three hits and one walk on a game-high six strikeouts.
Jenny Dodd failed to get on base in the first game of the doubleheader, ending her streak of reaching base safely at 29. It is the longest streak of reaching base safely on record at App State. Dodd continues to lead the Sun Belt in walks and is second in the nation with 35 total walks.
The Mountaineers scored two of their three runs on errors by the Eagles. NC Central ended the game with four total errors.
Caylie Kifer,
Keri White and
Alison Durrence all had singles that put runners in scoring position.
Sidney Russell and
Mary Pierce Barnes each had a double that moved runners as well.
The Mountaineers scored a run in the first, second and sixth innings and maintained their ninth shutout of the season.
Game 2
Maddie Siemer picked up the win for game two, evening her record out to 2-2 on the season. Siemer finished with a game-high five strikeouts with five walks while allowing only one run on the game.
The Mountaineer bats were hot in game two, scoring two runs in the first, second and third innings each. The scoring spree was interrupted when the Eagles managed to load the bases in the fourth inning and draw a walk to bring home a run.
Megan Walker started the Apps off again in the fifth with a double to center bringing home
Laura Sales for the final run of the game.
Walker, Sales and White all had two hits in game two.
Haley Stewart, Kifer and Durrence each finished the game with one hit a piece.
The Mountaineers head to San Marcos, Texas to resume Sun Belt play and take on Texas State in the weekend series. App State will be heading in with an 12-3 record in the last 15 games. The Mountaineers have yet to lose a conference series this season after sweeping Georgia Southern and ULM and beating Georgia State and South Alabama 2-1 in each series.
First pitch for game one is set for 6:30 p.m. EST on Friday, April 5 in San Marcos. Game two is set for 3 p.m. EST on Saturday followed by a 12 p.m. EST start time for game three on Sunday.
