Daughter of Scott and Paula Walker, Megan Walker headed to Appalachian after being named to the all-conference team her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. Walker was named an all-state honoree as a freshman and junior and earned the team's most valuable offensive player and most valuable defensive player awards.
Throughout her time as a Mountaineer, Walker has built her own legacy on and off the field. In 189 games and counting, she has accumulated 114 hits and a .291 slugging percentage. Megan has started in 173 games, including every game in her junior and senior seasons.
She batted a perfect 7-7 in the first two games of the conference opener this season against Georgia Southern and finished the weekend going 8-11, including two doubles and three RBIs, earning her the Week Five Community Coffee Sun Belt Player of the Week.
Walker also placed her name in the record book for recording four hits in game one against the Eagles, tying the most hits in a single game in program history.
"Megan is truly one of a kind," head coach Shelly Hoerner said. "She always has a smile on her face which has made coaching her fun. I'm excited to watch Megan blossom as she enters the next chapter of her life."
We sat down with Megan to find out exactly what her favorite moments were during her time at Appalachian.
Q: What's your favorite App moment as a player/student?
Megan: Definitely when I went 7 for 7 at Georgia Southern this year. I've never been more proud of my own performance and for it to be our first conference series win and sweep was just awesome for our program.
Q: Best road trip memory?
M: Freshman year as our initiation they made us sing, Shania Twain "Whose Boots Have Your Boots Been Under," and it was just so much fun and a great bonding experience for all of us.
Q: Favorite Coach Quote?
M: "That's why I'm the coach Megan" - Coach Hoerner
Q: Favorite/most memorable game?
M: Next to that Georgia Southern game would be the walk off against ULM last season. We battled so hard and to win that way was so rewarding, especially at home. Plus, it was just an all around fun game to be a part of.
Q: What are you going to miss most?
M: Just being with everyone. We're together all the time, so it'll be weird not being with and around them.
Q: What's the one thing you will take away from App?
M: Obviously my relationships with these friends. They made me a better and tougher person, especially these last two years. We meshed better as a team and as people in general and I'm really going to miss these special people.
Q: Final message to team?
M: You haven't reached your limit yet! Keep getting better and I think you're going to do big things in the years to come. I can't wait to see it happen...and I'll be back to visit!
