BOONE, N.C. - Appalachian State (22-9, 9-2 SBC) fell short in game two of the weekend series with South Alabama (12-19, 2-9 SBC) on Saturday.
The Mountaineers put up five runs on four hits in the 14-5 loss in five innings.
Sydney Holland suffered the loss in the circle for App State. With the loss, it brings her record to now 7-4 with a 2.42 ERA.
Taylor Nichols, Maddie Seimer and
Leanna Whaley all entered the circle as well in game two.
Jenny Dodd reached base safely for the 28th game in a row with a single in the fifth inning.
The Jags held the Mountaineers hitless until the fourth inning when
Alison Durrence hit a home run to center field. The run gave life to the Mountaineers that carried over into the fifth inning.
Maddy Bloom started the inning with a single to left center. After
Baylee Morton,
Laura Sales and
Keri White all reached base safely,
Caylie Kifer managed to draw a walk and bring in Morton.
A single by Dodd would score White and Sales, after an error by the Jags. A South Alabama wild pitch then allowed Kifer to score and that would be the last run for the Mountaineers on the day.
The Mountaineers look to bounce back and win the series on Sunday, March 31. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
