OXFORD, Ohio – App State's field hockey team suffered a 2-0 setback to second-seeded Miami in the semifinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Mountaineers (11-9) conclude their season with their most wins since 2003. App State's 5-4 overtime victory in the quarterfinals over Ohio also propelled the Mountaineers to their third straight season with an appearance in the MAC Tournament semifinals.
In the first half, junior
Annette Jarosz made a defensive save to help keep the game scoreless entering halftime. The junior then made another defensive save in the third period, pushing her season total to seven stops. Jarosz's seven defensive saves this season boosted her career total to 18 stops, which ranks first in program history.
App State registered three shots in the first period, firing two of its three shots off earned penalty corners. Freshman
Rachel Fleig recorded a shot on goal from the left side of the circle with less than 35 seconds remaining in the first half.
Senior
Lydia Bullock also recorded a shot on goal with 17 seconds remaining in the game.
Miami (12-7) scored twice within two minutes midway through the third period to secure the win. Both Redhawks' goals came off Miami penalty corner attempts.
Senior goalkeeper
Rachel Gaines made four saves in her final game in an App State uniform. The Kettering, Ohio native finishes her career with 468 saves, which ranks sixth in App State history.
