Men's Basketball Hosts Charlotte on Thursday Evening

BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State men's basketball welcomes Charlotte to the Holmes Center on Thursday evening for a non-conference contest. Tip is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ and across the Appalachian Sports Network from IMG Learfield College. App State men's basketball would like to thank AutoStar Nissan as its season sponsor.

TICKETS
Season tickets and single game tickets for the 2019-20 season are on sale and can be purchased by calling the App State ticket office at 828-262-2079.

WHITE OUT
Thursday's contest will serve as a White Out. All fans who wear white will receive $5 off admission to the game. In addition, the first 200 App State students will receive a t-shirt and free pizza while it lasts.

ALCOHOL
Plans for alcohol sales at select men's and women's 2019-20 home games include:
  • Craft beer, domestic beer and wine will be sold on the concourse near Section 12.
  • Service begins when doors open one hour prior to tipoff and ends at the conclusion of the third quarter for women's games and at the under 12:00 media timeout of the second half for men's games.
  • All patrons will be required to produce valid identification, which will be checked at the point of sale during each transaction.
  • Per state law, patrons 21 years of age or older will be permitted to purchase a maximum of one alcoholic beverage per transaction with valid identification.
  • Patrons will not be permitted to leave the Holmes Convocation Center with alcohol purchased within the venue.
  • Law enforcement and contracted security staff will monitor the concourse and seating areas for underage drinking, beverage pass-offs and problematic patrons or situations.
  • Public service announcements about drinking responsibly will be shown on the video board and announced via the arena's public address system.
  • Sales will occur at the following men's and women's basketball games throughout the 2019-20 season:

    • Jan. 4 vs. Georgia Southern (men)
    • Jan. 11 vs. Texas State (women)
    • Jan. 18 vs. Coastal Carolina (women) / Little Rock (men)
    • Feb. 1 vs. Georgia Southern (women)
    • Feb. 8 vs. Texas State (men)
    • Feb. 15 vs. Troy (women)
    • Feb. 22 vs. Troy (men)
    • Feb. 29 vs. ULM (women) / Coastal Carolina (men)
THE SERIES
  • This will be the 37th meeting all-time between the two schools, with the 49ers holding a 23-13 edge
  • Charlotte won the last contest between the two teams in the 2016-17 season by an 80-72 score
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
  • App State dropped to 3-3 on the season with a 55-41 setback at UNCG in the Spartan Invitational on Monday evening
  • Isaac Johnson had 10 points and a season-high 14 rebounds, while Kendall Lewis tallied a career-high 11 points and a season-high 10 rebounds. It marked the first time a pair of App State teammates had double-doubles in the same game since Nathan Healy (17 points, 13 rebounds) and Michael Obacha (11 points, 10 rebounds) accomplished the feat in the 2012-13 season against Georgia Southern
  • Justin Forrest is averaging 18.7 points, which sits third in the Sun Belt. Has scored 20 or more points in three contests this season
  • Johnson is averaging 8.2 rebounds, which sits fourth in the conference
  • The Mountaineers have held their last five opponents to 62 points or less and are giving up just 59.7 points per game, which is second in the league
SCOUTING THE 49ERS
  • Charlotte improved to 2-1 on the season with a 67-65 overtime win over Wake Forest on Sunday
  • Jahmir Young recorded his first career 20-point scoring game with 24 points. Jordan Shepherd nearly recorded a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds. Malik Martin scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Amidou Bamba scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds
  • Charlotte has five players averaging at least five rebounds per game. Milos Supica leads the 49ers in rebounding, averaging 6.0 rebounds. Young is second on the team at 5.7 rebounds. Bamba and Shepherd average 5.3 boards per game, while Edwards grabs an average of 5.0 per game
  • Young was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week for the second straigh week after averaging 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and four assists helping the 49ers defeat cross-county rival Davidson (November 12) and ACC foe Wake Forest (November 17) at home
