BOONE, N.C. – The Appalachian State men's soccer team fell to Coastal Carolina, 4-2, on a rainy Saturday in Boone. With the win, Coastal moves to 5-6-2 and 1-1-0 in the Sun Belt. Appalachian falls to 9-3-1, 2-1-0 in conference play.
The first half was the downfall for the Mountaineers, conceding all four goals in the 45 minutes to trail 4-0 going into the break. Chanticleer goals were scored by Danny Cabrera, Tsiki Ntsabeleng (2), and Morten Timm.
The Mountaineers came out fighting in the second half, scoring two quick goals just a minute apart in the 48
th and 49
th minute.
Juan Hernandez found
Alex Hernandez for his third goal of the season. Juan now has a team-high four assists.
The second goal was scored by the head of
Camden Holbrook off a cross into the box from
Parker Cross. Holbrook is now tied for the team-lead in goals with four. App State continued to battle, but could not find the final two goals to equalize.
Appalachian held the advantage in shots, taking 12, eight of which were in the second half, compared to nine by Coastal. The Mountaineers also held the Chanticleers without a shot in the second half.
Redshirt freshman
Jacob Madden played the first half for the Mountaineers, making two saves.
Caleb Garbuio entered the game in the second half and finished out the final 45 minutes. Starting keeper for Coastal, Alberto Ciroi, made two saves in his 90 minutes of play.
The Mountaineers hit the road next week, taking on RV Penn State on Oct. 25 and No. 19 North Carolina on Oct. 29.
