BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State Athletics continues to raise the standard in the classroom after fall grades were released. Mountaineer student-athletes posted a 3.10 semester GPA for the fall for a 3.14 cumulative GPA.
This past semester is now the 13
th consecutive semester with a GPA above 3.0 for the Mountaineers, allowing a new record cumulative GPA. Thirteen teams logged a semester GPA above 3.0 while 14 teams boast a cumulative GPA above 3.0. All women's teams claim a cumulative GPA above 3.0 as well.
Women's cross country holds the highest GPA from the fall semester with a 3.62, their third consecutive semester in the lead. Men's soccer tops the men's sports with a 3.21 semester GPA.
Three Mountaineer teams were also recognized by the NCAA last semester with APR Public Recognition Awards – women's golf, women's soccer and women's tennis – while five teams recorded perfect single-year APR scores in 2016-17 – field hockey, women's golf, men's soccer, women's soccer and men's tennis.
Since its 2014-15 transition to the Sun Belt Conference for all but two sports (wrestling and field hockey), App State has paced the league in academic performance among its student-athletes. In the 2016-17 academic year, App State won the Sun Belt Institutional Graduation Rate Award for the second time in three years. The Mountaineers totaled 95 student-athletes on the Commissioner's List (3.5+ GPA) and 115 on the Academic Honor Roll (3.0-3.49 GPA) after the 2017-18 academic year.
