Mountaineers Win Fifth In a Row with Sweep of ULM

BOONE, N.C. -- Appalachian State volleyball posted its fifth consecutive victory, sweeping past ULM by a 27-25, 25-16, 25-21 count on Friday evening inside the Holmes Center.

The Mountaineers are now 11-4 on the season and move to 3-0 in Sun Belt play. The five-match win streak is the longest for App State since the 2015 season.

The Black and Gold featured a balanced offensive attack in the victory. Emma Longley led the way with 13 kills and seven digs. Melissa McMath added 10 kills, Kara Spicer posted nine kills and four blocks and Lexi Kohut had eight kills.

Becky Porter tallied her fourth double-double in the last five contests with 41 assists and 10 digs. Emma Reilly recorded a match-high 18 digs.

ULM (7-9, 0-3 SBC) opened a 21-17 lead late in the opening set. The Black and Gold countered with four consecutive points to tie the score at 21-21. The score would end up tied four more times, before the Mountaineers broke a 25-25 tie with kills by Porter and McMath to capture Set 1.

In the second set, App State jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. The Mountaineers would build as big of a lead as nine points, cruising to a 25-16 victory to open a 2-0 lead.

Set 3 saw Appalachian State come out strong again and jump out to a 14-5 edge. The Warhawks would pull to within two points at 22-20, but a kill from McMath and a service ace from Grace Kinsch expanded the Mountaineer lead to 24-20. Following a ULM point, Victoria Wilform capped off the sweep with a kill.

App State finished with 48 kills and limited the Warhawks to a .082 hitting mark in the win.

The Mountaineers will eye their sixth straight victory on Sunday, when they welcome Louisiana to the Holmes Center for a 12:30 p.m. contest.
