JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Appalachian State volleyball suffered a 25-11, 25-15, 25-20 setback at East Tennessee State on Tuesday evening.
Emma Longley paced the Mountaineers (6-4) with a team-high 11 kills and six digs.
Victoria Wilform added a career-best eight kills.
Jana Owens dished out a career-high 17 assists and added a career-best five digs.
Grace Kinsch recorded a new career-high in digs with 11.
The Buccaneers (9-2) broke a 3-3 tie in the first set with four straight points. ETSU would use a 7-0 run later in the set to pull away and take the opening frame 25-11.
In Set 2, the Black and Gold jumped out to a 5-3 lead on a kill by Wilform. With the score knotted at 9-9, ETSU scored six consecutive points to open a 15-9 edge. The Buccaneers captured the second set 25-15.
In the third set, App State found themselves down 21-12 late in the frame. The Black and Gold countered with six of the next seven points to trim the ETSU lead to 22-18. The Buccaneers would expand their lead back to six points and a kill by Abbie Trantham gave East Tennessee State the set 25-20 to clinch the match.
The Mountaineers will be back at it on Thursday and Friday in Greenville, S.C. with a pair of contests. On Thursday, the Black and Gold will take on Furman at 7:30 p.m., followed by a meeting with Winthrop in Greenville on Friday at noon.
