Box Score 2 LAFAYETTE, LA. -- Appalachian State softball dropped a pair to no. 20 Louisiana in a Sun Belt doubleheader on Saturday, March 17. The Apps lost 0-5 in the first game and 0-8 in five innings during game two.
Game One (L, 0-5)
After a 45-minute rain delay in the top of the first inning, the Ragin' Cajuns manufactured four of their five runs in the bottom of the inning. On five hits and one error, the Ragin' Cajuns scored four. They finished off their scoring in the bottom of the third inning on a solo home run.
Laura Sales ruined Louisiana's chances of a no-hitter in the top of the sixth inning with a single through the right side. Sales was the Mountaineers' only hit of the first game.
Kenzie Longanecker picked up the loss for the Mountaineers, allowing ten hits, walking two batters and striking out one.
Game Two (L, 0-8, 5 innings)
The Ragin' Cajuns needed five innings to score eight runs. A 3-RBI homer in the third inning came up big for the Ragin' Cajuns to bring the score 0-7 before their final run scored in the fifth.
The Mountaineers produced two total hits coming from the top of the lineup.
Alisha Josey smashed a single through the 5-6 hole in the top of the first inning.
Keri White was responsible for the other hit of the game during the third inning when she placed a bunt in front of the pitcher to catch the defense off guard and earn first base.
Callie Kuykendall suffered the loss after nine hits and seven runs from Louisiana.
Julianna Roupas pitched in the fourth and fifth innings when the Ragin' Cajuns scored their walk-off run to end the game.
The final game of the series is schedule for 11 a.m. CT (12 p.m. ET) on Sunday, March 18.
