GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Appalachian State's volleyball team finished Day One of the UND Classic with a Dakotas split.

After claiming a four-set win against South Dakota State on Friday morning, the Mountaineers lost in three sets Friday night against tournament host North Dakota. The Fighting Hawks improved to 12-1 by winning 25-18, 25-19, 25-19.

App State (3-6) will play two more matches Saturday, as it faces George Washington at 3:30 p.m. and North Dakota State at 8 p.m.

Freshman
Kara Spicer led the Mountaineers with 16 kills against North Dakota, and
Ashlyn Brown totaled 35 assists.
Sydney Hinds and
Olivia Loeffler had 13 digs apiece.

North Dakota, which won its 14
th straight home match, has not allowed an opponent to score 20 points in any set on its home court this season. Three players had double-digit kills for the Fighting Hawks, and Sydney Griffin led them with 33 assists.
