Volleyball Falls to Arkansas State in Five Sets
JONESBORO, A.R. – Appalachian State volleyball loses a tough match against SBC opponent Arkansas State on Saturday, Sept. 23 (21-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 20-22).
 
The Mountaineers took the Red Wolves to five full sets for tonight's competition. It was a back-and-forth battle between the two teams, but the Red Wolves came out on top.
 
App State won the second (26-24) and fourth (25-18) sets to push Arkansas State to a fifth and final set.  The Mountaineers bounced back in the fifth after being down 7-11 to tie it up at 14-14.  They matched each point Arkansas State scored to tie it up at 14-14, 15-15, 16-16, and 17-17. The score continued to rise as each team responded to the other, bringing the battle to a 22-20 victory for Arkansas State.
 
Kara Spicer's name was at the top of the leader board with 19 kills and 42 attacks. Emma Reilly had 24 digs, the highest of either team during tonight's match.  Ashlyn Brown had 63 assists while Courtney Sullivan and Melissa McMath also had impressive performances.
 
Appalachian State is now 1-1 in Sun Belt play with an overall record of 6-10.  The season continues at Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C., on Friday, Sept. 29 at 6:30 p.m. against Texas State.
