CHARLESTON, S.C. – On the first day of the Charleston Invitational volleyball tournament, Appalachian State dropped a 3-0 contest to the host, College of Charleston, Friday night.
The Cougars (8-3) came out hot and raced to an early 12-5 lead en route to a 25-12 win in the first set. They took the second set 25-9. App State (4-8) started stronger in the third set, using a pair of
Emma Reilly kills and some good teamwork to take a 7-6 advantage, but College of Charleston turned the tables and won 25-12 for the set and match.
Ashlyn Brown led the way for the Mountaineers, collecting a team-high 14 assists to go with eight digs on defense. She shared the top mark in digs with
Sydney Hinds.
Jenna Talbert and
Lexi Kohut each posted a team-high four kills.
App State will play its final two matches of the Charleston Invitational on Saturday. The match against Buffalo will start at 10:30 a.m., followed by Mercer at 4:30 p.m.
