MOBILE, ALA. – Appalachian State volleyball finished their regular season with a loss at South Alabama on Sunday, Nov. 12 (17-25, 14-25, 24-26). After tonight's match, the Mountaineers finished 11-19 overall with a 6-10 Sun Belt Conference record as they head into the SBC tournament this week.
App State leaders included
Grace Morrison with seven kills on the day followed by
Courtney Sullivan and
Lexi Kohut with six each.
Grace Morrison and
Cassidy Stephenson led at the net with two blocks apiece, and
Ashlyn Brown had 28 assists.
Emma Reilly helped the defense with 12 digs.
In the first set, a 6-0 run from the Jaguars put them ahead 4-7. They held onto the lead to end it 17-25. The second set presented the opportunity for an 8-0 run for the Jaguars.
Melissa McMath had three kills, but the Mountaineers fell 14-25.
Apps were ahead in the third set, making it difficult for the Jaguars to come back after four kills from
Grace Morrison and three from
Courtney Sullivan. The Mountaineers' lead slipped when South Alabama had a 4-0 run to rob the Mountaineers of a win 24-26.
With a 6-10 conference record, App State finished third in the East Division of the SBC and seventh overall. Apps will travel next to Jonesboro, Ark. for the SBC tournament Nov. 16-19. Their first match of the tournament will take place on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. ET. against sixth-ranked UT Arlington.
