POSTGAME QUOTES
Appalachian State
Head Coach Scott Satterfield
Opening Statement:
“I'm real proud of our guys and the way we came out to play tonight. I've been proud of them the last month. We talked about how we were going to finish the season and those guys really started playing well together and it showed tonight and last week.”
On Marcus Cox's historic day:
“He said earlier in the week that he wanted to get at least 100 yards rushing but we wanted to get him 200 yards and he did just that. Marcus has been making huge plays for us all season. He was the workhorse on the team and we are glad to see him get those records.”
On his team's fast start:
“We have been watching film and we saw that Western starts the game slow, so we knew we had to come out and play fast. I did not know that we are going to score 31 points so easy but the team played well. I'm glad that we were able to do that and get the victory.”
RB Marcus Cox
On his record-breaking day:
"The only record that I knew about before the game was the freshman single-game rushing one. I'm glad to have broken the records. The line was able to block for me. I'm just happy that we got the win and closed the season out well.”
LB Karl Anderson
On his interception return for a touchdown:
“I was happy to have gotten the pick-six. I believe it was Thomas Bronson who hurried the quarterback and the ball floated in the air. After I caught it, I was able to tightrope the sideline and got a great block by Rodger Walker and scored the touchdown.”
LB Patrick Blalock
On closing the season out with a win:
“I feel like we put it all together at the end of the season. I wish we could go back and start the season right now. The way we are playing right now, if we started today, we would have had a much different season. To finish the season the way we did is great.”
Western Carolina
Head Coach Mark Speir
On the rivalry:
“It's disappointing to end a rivalry game like that. You hope it's going to be one of those classic games and it wasn't. App State did a great job. They came out and executed that first drive.”
On the first half:
“It looked like we were going to answer their first drive with a nice drive, but that fumble really hurt. Second series we had some miscommunication issues. They came out and executed and move the ball on us. Offensively we just became dormant, which has been a problem for us all year.”
On trying to answer Appalachian's scores:
“Any time it seemed like we gained some momentum we just couldn't capitalize on it.
