POSTGAME QUOTES

Appalachian State

Coach Satterfield
Opening Statement:
“I think a lot of good things happened today, and more so starting back on Monday with practice and preparation. I thought the game plan coming in to today was going to be on point and turns out today it was. There was something about our kids today. We told them that today was the day. We had been sporadic in the past weeks, at times we had played well on defense, we played well on offense sometimes and on special teams we played well but today it all came together. Our defense played well and got turnovers. Offensively Kam played well, and the receivers made big plays. Overall it was a great team win. ”

On the game plan and execution:
“Tonight our guys went out and made plays, I thought that at Furman we had a good game plan. We had close to five hundred yards, we just put the ball on the ground. Tonight we didn't do that, we took care of the ball and we made the big plays down the field. I'm just proud of those guys. The big plays are the things we've been missing offensively this year. We've been getting the ball down the field but we were lacking the big play to get the ball in the end zone. We were able to do that tonight and finishing off the drive with a big play is what it's going to take to get points.”

On the impact of a win:
“All of these kids are 18, 19, and 20 and there's more to coaching than just football. We are trying to teach these kids life lessons and a big one this season is adversity and resiliency. We've gone through a lot of adversity and now we can benefit from the success of this week. Now we can move on with some momentum that will carry us. This makes it easier this week to show that when you put in the hard practices and meetings you will be rewarded and to make that come true this week lets the kids know it does pay off.”

Defensive End Deuce Robinson
On the importance of forcing turnovers:
“Coach Woody has put a huge emphasis in practice on forcing turnovers. If we don't force turnovers in a game then we'll have to run for it in practice. The more turnovers you force the easier it is to win the game. I thought today that we did a really good job of forcing turnovers and I believe Coach Woody will be proud of us.”

Wide Receiver Tony Washington
On the  performance of the receiving corps:
“As  wide receivers we see ourselves as being the biggest playmakers on the field and so far this year we weren't living up to that. Tonight we thought that with Georgia Southern's man coverage we would have the advantage and we went out and made the plays.”

Quarterback Kameron Bryant
On his  strong startin the third quarter:
“That was big, we've had trouble this year and last year with scoring points in the 3rd quarter and it was big for us to get out there and put points on the board. It was something we had to focus on and just get out there and do what we practiced all week to do.”

On making big plays:
“I think we were successful because of what we did on the practice field all week. These receivers have run the same routes all year and it was up to me to get the ball in their hands. So what we did in practice was huge. My job was to distribute the ball to the receivers and watch them do what they do and they did a great job.”

Wide Receiver Andrew Peacock
On eliminating mistakes:
“For me, the key was eliminating mistakes. With route running, blocking, and passing. I think that the talent is here we just needed focus. When you focus you can eliminate mistakes and be in the right place at the right time. I don't think it was because we played Georgia Southern, I thought it was because we were focused.”

Georgia Southern

Head Coach Jeff Monken
Opening Statement:
“It's a big rivalry and its disappointing that we weren't able to win. We got the first touchdown of the game and then we didn't do much after that. We didn't move the football, we didn't get first downs, we didn't get in the endzone and we just let them throw the ball at will. They got us on a lot of double moves and some big plays and we turned the ball over. There were a lot of things we didn't do very well. I'm disappointed. I'm frustrated and it hurts to lose. It hurts to lose to those guys and it hurts to lose period. I thought our team was ready and I thought we had a couple really good weeks of practice. We spent a lot of time interacting and going against each other and we thought it would be good for us. I really thought our guys were prepared and bottom line is they played great football. They overcame mistakes and they kicked a field goal. They really did a nice job.”

On losing QB Jerick McKinnon early in the game:
“We got other guys that can play. It's disappointing to lose Jerick because he's a dynamic runner and he's very good with the ball in his hands, but other guys have to make plays too. We have to block and give those guys a chance to run. At times we did and other times we didn't. There were a couple instances where we had missed assignments and we have to do a better job of that. When you win the battles you should win the war and we weren't winning a lot of the battles going on. They threw the ball so well against us. It was a frustrating day for all of us.”

Running Back Irving Huggins
On the loss of QB Jerick McKinnon early on:
“Anytime you lose a player like Jerick it's going to hurt the team. People have to step up and play. I got that opportunity today and I knew my teammates had full support of me. Injuries happen so I was just ready to take the opportunity ahead of me.”

On having trouble on the road:
“We just need to work on being better prepared for games. We need to come out of the gate and play a full game of football, not a quarter or a half.”

Quarterback Kevin Ellison
On the loss:
“App State is a very good team and they are coached very well. They came out and played very well and now we know we have to come together to play better next Saturday.”

On the injuries to key players:
“Our younger guys get a lot of practice just in case we have an injury and I think everyone did a very good job of stepping up and playing well in the game after Jerick went down. As a team we knew had to come together. “
