POSTGAME QUOTES

Appalachian State

Coach Jerry Moore

Opening Statement

"It was a good day for us today, Elon is a good football team. They are one of the best teams we have played this year.  They are very talented at throwing the ball and it is about as good as you can get.  I have great respect with what they have done there at Elon."

On other teams

"We aren't going to have any easy games in this league, there are just too many good football teams."

On the rest of the season ahead

"We have five tough football games left.  Games like this are good for us.  And if we can overcome these games it shows we have some pretty good stuff."

On Elon's defense

"Their defense plays well, which is why we had problems running the ball early."

Quarterback Jamal Jackson

On whether or not they were ready at the beginning

"I had to settle in and make sure I was reading the right plays but once we got a rhythm we were good."

On their defense performance versus film

"If I wasn't sure if I had it, I would go somewhere else, they had a solid defense."

Defensive back Demetrius McCray

On what made defending them so challenging.

"They have a good receiver, he was really hard to defend.  It was a battle out there today and we came out on top with the win."

Running back Steven Miller

On the amount of yards he ran

"We worked all week (on running the ball) and fortunately I was able to make things happen."

On if his amount of playing outside

"We have a lot of good receivers, when I'm out there I'm pretty much a decoy, we have a lot of guys that can get outside."

Wide Receiver Andrew Peacock

On his touchdown

"We knew we could take a shot deep so basically it was just one-on-one, me and my defender, I ran a nice corner rout and Jamal put it on me."

On being behind in the first half

"They have an awesome defense and my touchdown really put us in a great state of mind."

Elon

Head Coach Jason Swepson

Opening thoughts:

"We had too many mistakes as a team; they have some great athletes and we got big played. We fought and played tough. We came up here expecting to play a physical football team and we came out to play physical and I think we did that. We lost our composure in certain parts and they big played us and we'd add fifteen more yards onto the play because of penalties."

Officiating:

"We had our chances before the half. The officiating missed a big time call that would have given us fifteen extra yards. At some points it felt like we were playing two teams out there. That's something that I want looked at so that we can get even called football games out there because I feel like that wasn't the case today."

Atmosphere at Kidd Brewer Stadium:

"There is a great atmosphere here. I would imagine that is the best in all of FCS football. I've been to a lot of places at this level, Georgia Southern a couple weeks ago and Delaware years ago but this place takes the cake. Our kids like playing on the road we have just got to find a way to win."

Red-Zone Mistakes:

"We missed too many red-zone scoring opportunities. Missing the field goal and having that interception took away ten points that could've just had us down by two and it would've been a completely different ball game in the fourth quarter. Our last few games we've been doing really well in the red-zone and it caught up with us. We didn't execute in the red-zone today."

Linebacker Jonathan Spain

ASU's offense in 2nd half.

"We just made too many mistakes. That team just has so much speed and you can't make mistakes against a team with so much speed. In the first half we stopped their run but they spread us out in the second half and it hurt us. We made too many mental mistakes and it killed us."

Wide Receiver Aaron Mellette

Matchup with CB Demetrius McCray

"I think he's the best corner in the conference and he's going against me, one of the best receivers in the conference. I knew he would bring his A-game and it turned into a back and forth slugfest. I enjoyed it."
