Appalachian State
Head Coach Jerry Moore
Opening Statement:
"I hurt for our seniors; many of those guys were a part of our last
national championship. And we know what it is like to play in games of this
magnitude. This was nothing new for us, and we should have handled it."
On Maine's defense:
"Their secondary was probably the best that we have played against. They were the best tackling and the most
aggressive secondary that we have played against."
On Maine's offense
scoring on long plays:
"Their quarterback, that guy is just a winner. He doesn't do anything
flashy. He goes out there and runs a boot, and they get a first down, and the
next thing you know he hits a long ball, touchdown."
Running back Travaris
Cadet
On Maine's aggressive
defense:
"Today, they wanted it more than us, and they took advantage of opportunities
on the field."
Quarterback Jamal
Jackson
On facing third-down
and long situations:
"Any time the defense can dictate what you are going to do it is not a good
outing. We have got to work on that and grow from it."
Maine
Head Coach Jack
Cosgrove
Opening statement:
"We are excited about the win and for the guys. They worked
extremely hard. We got a gift with having a bye and we put it to our benefit. We
had a picture of that during the season where we had a great bye week at the
end of September after our first three games and came out of that bye with some
real good football. I thought we needed to be in that same state and frame of
mind. It's an honor to come down here and win. It's special to come down here
and win. We feel real special, honored and humbled to come down to a place like
this and win. I feel really good for these guys, and it's great to see them
reap the benefits of their hard work."
On the offense:
"I think we ran our offense today. Warren was very sharp
early in the game, and we just ran our offense. We hoped to be able to run the
football, and we found ways to do that. But at times it became difficult to do
that because they really got stout up front and their linebackers pressed the
line of scrimmage in the second half. We got out a few times and enough times
to separate ourselves. And give us a good run pass balance and keep them on their
heels a little bit. We felt like we could run our offense as long as our guys
played physical.
Linebacker Troy Russell
On stopping the ASU
running game:
"We had the bye week and had extra time to prepare fro them
and get a feel for their top plays. Our coach did a great job calling the game,
putting us in the right position, and everyone executed like we were supposed
to."
Quarterback Warren Smith
On what the win means
to the program:
"It means a lot to our program, alumni and especially us
players. Coming off a 7-4 season from last year, we knew we had a lot to fix,
but we knew there was a lot out there for us. With us buying in last December
and in the summer having a great overall team effort in the weight room,
running, and playing 7-on-7. The whole togetherness of this football team is so
great and it's a reward for all that what we did. We are not satisfied yet, and
we won't be satisfied until you know what happens."
