NO. 6 APPALACHIAN STATE 35, SAMFORD 17
OCTOBER 22, 2011 • BOONE, N.C. (KIDD BREWER STADIUM)
POSTGAME NOTES

Team

• With the win, Appalachian moved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Southern Conference play. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Samford (4-3, 2-3 SoCon).

 • With No. 5 Wofford's 26-21 loss at Furman on Saturday, ASU controls its own destiny in its pursuit of an unprecedented seventh-straight SoCon championship.

 • ASU moved to 30-2 in its last 32 SoCon games.

 • ASU moved to 4-0 against Samford since the Bulldogs joined the SoCon in 2008 and 5-1 all-time versus SU. ASU remains as the only SoCon team that Samford has not beaten in four years in the league.

 • ASU won its 15th-straight regular-season home game and moved to 59-4 in its last 63 home games overall.

 • The win was ASU's ninth-straight on homecoming. ASU is now 37-11-2 in 50 all-time homecoming games played at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

 • ASU moved to 7-0 all-time when wearing gold jerseys, including 2-0 in this year's incarnation of the alternate third jersey.

 • The attendance of 28,912 was the ninth-largest in Kidd Brewer Stadium history.

 Individual

• Senior wide receiver Brian Quick became ASU's all-time leader in touchdown receptions with a 69-yard scoring catch in the second quarter, the 26th of his career. The previous school record of 25 career touchdown receptions stood for 43 years (set by Bob Agle from 1965-68).

 • Quick finished with 100 yards on four receptions, good for the 10th 100-yard game of his career and fourth in seven games this season.

 • Senior running back Travaris Cadet rushed for 139 yards on 22 carries (6.3-yd. avg.). The 100-yard game was the fifth of Cadet's career and his first in back-to-back games (he had 133 rushing yards in last week's win at The Citadel).

 • Senior DeAndre Presley, who started 18-straight games at quarterback for ASU before being replaced by Jackson in the starting lineup last week due to a shoulder injury, made his defensive debut, starting the game at right cornerback in ASU's five-defensive-back package. On Samford's second possession, Presley forced a fumble that gave ASU the ball inside the SU 20 yard line. Presley finished with six tackles to go along with the forced fumble.
