COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Tuesday night's men's basketball contest between Appalachian State University and Tennessee Tech was canceled and will not be made up this season. The Mountaineers spend Tuesday night in Cookeville in order to be available for a Wednesday game, but the teams were unable to agree on a mutual date to make up the contest.
As a return game for last year's ESPNU BracketBuster contest in Boone, Appalachian and the Southern Conference were responsible for supplying the game's officials and are taking steps to ensure a similar situation does not occur again.
Director of Athletics Charlie Cobb issued an apology, stating “We apologize to Tennessee Tech and its fans. It is unusual for a visiting team to provide game officials, but we have played in BracketBusters before and this miscommunication should not have occured.”
Following Thanksgiving, the Mountaineers (2-1) travel to Vanderbilt for a Saturday contest, set to tip off at 2 p.m. TTU plays Michigan State on Sunday.
