Matt Present was named Assistant Director of Strategic Communications in March 2022 after joining App State Athletics in November 2021 as the men’s basketball radio broadcaster.

In addition to serving as the radio play-by-play voice of App State Men's Basketball, Present serves as the ESPN+ play-by-play broadcaster for App State Baseball, and is the primary strategic communications contact for baseball and soccer.

Present previously worked in minor league baseball for five seasons, most recently for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (Miami – Triple-A) as a broadcaster and media relations assistant after holding similar roles with the York Revolution (Atlantic League), Lynchburg Hillcats (Cleveland – Advanced-A) and Down East Wood Ducks (Texas – Advanced-A).

Additionally, Present spent three years working for LEARFIELD in Winston-Salem where he served as a studio host for college football and basketball radio broadcasts across the nation. He has also done freelance broadcasting in the region, calling a variety of sports for App State, Wake Forest, Davidson and Guilford College.

A native of Silver Spring, Maryland, Present graduated from the University of Maryland in 2016 with a degree in broadcast journalism. 

Present lives in Boone, N.C. with his wife, Rachel, and their dog, Charlie, and cat, Simba.
