Biography

Career: Posted a 38-34 career record with a fourth-place finish at the 2024 SoCon Championships.

2023-24: Went 27-17 as the primary starter at 141 pounds and ranked second on the team in wins … All for App Award winner at the APPSYs and the team banquet … Had a 6-1 mark in SoCon duals and a fourth-place finish at the SoCon Championships with two wins: a major decision, then a big 4-3 Tiebreaker 1 victory against Campbell’s Wynton Denkins … Made first career dual start in mid-December against North Carolina, winning 2-1 at 141 pounds to contribute to a 24-14 win against the 21st-ranked Tar Heels ... In the locker room after the UNC match, was told he was being added as a team captain and that he would be put on scholarship for the spring semester ... Went 2-0 in early February with close wins against Campbell (4-0 shutout) and VMI (2-1 in Tiebreaker-1 overtime) ... Had one tech fall and three major decisions in last four SoCon dual wins.

2022-23: Went 6-10 overall at 141 pounds ... Fourth place at the Appalachian Open with a 3-0 start.

2021-22: Went 4-6 overall at 141 pounds with one pin ... Placed fourth at the Appalachian Open, going 3-2 with a 4-3 decision, pin and 5-2 decision.

2020-21 (Didn't count against eligibility because of COVID): Went 1-1 at the App State Individual Quad at 141 pounds, earning a 6-1 decision against The Citadel’s Tyler Seely.

2019-20: Went 7-12 as a redshirting, unattached true freshman at 149 pounds … Placed fifth at the Newberry Open … Won three matches at the Wolfpack Open … Had two wins, including a pin, at the Tornado Open.

High School: Won back-to-back 4-A state championships as a junior (138 pounds) and senior (152 pounds) … Won the title and went 40-3 as a senior thanks to a takedown in the final five seconds of the championship match … Claimed a 1-0 decision in the state final to complete a 50-4 season as a junior … Three-time regional champion went 59-10 as a sophomore, when he placed fourth in the state … Coached by Ben Watson … Also participated in track … Uncle played Division I football … Born June 16, 2001 … Son of Franklin Byers and Wendy Knox ...
