Jarrod Patterson

Jarrod Patterson joined App State Wrestling’s coaching staff in May 2022 and was promoted to full-time assistant in August 2023.

After joining the App State staff as a volunteer assistant in 2022, he contributed to a banner 2022-23 season in which the Mountaineers finished with a dual team ranking of No. 20 in the nation, secured a SoCon regular-season title with an 8-0 league record, earned a SoCon sweep by winning the conference tournament and had six wrestlers qualify to compete at the NCAA Championships.

In 2023-24, the Mountaineers finished the season with a national dual-team ranking of No. 24, repeated as SoCon tournament champions and sent five wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, with three posting top-16 finishes.
 
Patterson earned All-America and Academic All-America honors at the University of Oklahoma before beginning his college coaching career at Brown University of the Ivy League. For the previous four years, he was the head coach at Sand Springs High School in his home state of Oklahoma, where he mentored eight OSSAA state placers and three state finalists.
  
Patterson was a state champion at the high school level before excelling at the college level and making a successful transition into coaching.
 
He won four state titles in high school and posted a 107-32 career record at Oklahoma from 2009-14. He qualified for the NCAA Championships four times, reached the blood round three times and was an All-American at 125 pounds as a sophomore.
 
Patterson, who earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology and master’s degree in human relations from Oklahoma, was a three-time Academic All-American and four-time Academic All-Big XII selection.
