From Schererville, Ind., Schafer joins the Mountaineers after posting a standout career at Lake Central High School. Schafer batted .485 for her career, slashing 176 hits in 363 at-bats. Not only does she hit for average, she also hits for power, as 82 of her 176 hits went for extra bases, which included 51 doubles and 14 home runs. Every year of her high school career saw her smoke at least 10 doubles. Schafer comes into the 2026 season after hitting .529 - a career-best – in her senior year, while also driving home 47 runs in 85 at-bats. Schafer boasts numerous individual accolades at Lake Central High School as she was a 2023 first-team all-state selection, a two-time all-conference honoree, the 2022 Rookie of the Year and the 2023 MVP of her team. She is a proven winner, as her team was a three-time sectional champion and a two-time regional champion. Academically, Schafer was a member of the National Honor Society, the Leadership Athletic Counsel and was named the Student of the Month three times.
