LEXINGTON, Ky. - The App State men's and women's track and field teams had seven athletes place in the top 48 in the region, qualifying them for the NCAA East Prelims.
The Mountaineers tied a program record by sending seven athletes to the NCAA East Prelims, a mark set in 2024. Four men and three women highlight the field, with Matthew Gray leading the way as the NCAA outdoor leader in pole vault with a clearance of 5.84m/19-2 at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, taking home gold. Lilly Nichols and Ava Studney had another stellar outdoor season, with both achieving a season-best clearance of 4.08m/13-4.5 at the Duke Invitational to qualify.
Ethan Lipham, Thomas Wlazlowski, and Derek Waite all qualified for the men's 3000 meters Steeplechase by taking home gold, silver, and bronze at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships with times of 8:49.64 (Lipham), 8:49.96 (Wlazlowski), and 8:51.40 (Waite). Sprinter Kendall Johnson also qualified in the women's 100 meters with a time of 11.37 at the Sun Belt Outdoor Championships, which helped earn points for the women's team in their best finish since joining the Sun Belt.
