App State Tennis Stays Hot, Downs Coastal Carolina 4-1

BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team extended its winning streak to seven with a hard-fought 4-1 victory over Coastal Carolina.
 
What Happened
The Mountaineers (14-5, 6-2 SBC) started the day strong, clinching the doubles point. Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Taya Powell earned a 6-2 win on court one, followed by Alexi Cleveland and Olwyn Ryan-Bovey securing a victory on court three, giving App State a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
 
Dada-Mascoll continued her impressive run in singles with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set win. She improves to 14-2 in singles, all at the No. 1 spot, and holds a 12-3 doubles record, primarily on courts one and two.
 
Ryan-Bovey made it 3-0 for the Mountaineers with a 6-4, 6-2 win on court four. After holding a narrow 4-3 lead in the first set, she took two of the next three games to close it out, then powered through the second set. Her singles record now stands at 8-5, with six straight wins.
 
Despite a setback on court three, Cleveland clinched the overall win for App State in a three-set battle. After sweeping the first set 6-0 and dropping the second, she battled back to take the third, extending her singles win streak to four and improving to 8-3, primarily from courts five and six.
 
The matches of Ruby Broadbent and Naledi Manyube were left unfinished once the match was clinched.
 
Up Next
The Mountaineers will stay in the High Country to host Georgia Southern for Senior Day. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
