App State Tennis Comes Up Short in 4-3 Loss to ETSU

BOONE, N.C. – The App State tennis team suffered its second loss of the season to ETSU, falling 4-3 in a match that came down to the last contest of the day.

What Happened
The doubles matches were closely contested, with both teams exchanging early leads. Although Savannah Dada-Mascoll and Isabela Romanichen were defeated in their doubles match, the pairs of Olwyn Ryan-Bovey/Taya Powell and Ruby Broadbent/Naledi Manyube secured victories for the Mountaineers, giving App State a one-point lead heading into singles—marking the third time in four matches they've done so.

In singles, Dada-Mascoll remained undefeated with a three-set win over ETSU's Daniela Rivera. After dropping the first set, she won the next two 6-4 to claim victory.
Romanichen also stayed undefeated in singles, defeating her opponent in two sets. After losing five games in the first set, she won six straight to give the Mountaineers their second point of the day.

Despite defeats for Powell, Manyube, and Ryan-Bovey, Dada-Mascoll and Romanichen's wins left the match tied at 3-3, with the outcome resting on the final match between ETSU's Ksenija Rage and Ruby Broadbent. Although Broadbent won the first set, she dropped the next two, giving ETSU the fourth point and securing their first win of the season.

The Mountaineers will hit the road to take on Western Carolina on Saturday. Play is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
