HATTIESBURG, MISS. – App State Tennis improved to 6-2 in Sun Belt Conference play after its 4-1 victory over Southern Miss on Saturday. The Mountaineers saw a commanding performance in singles play give the Mountaineers their 12th overall win of the season.
Southern Miss (4-11, 0-7 SBC) claimed the doubles point with victories from its No. 1 and No. 2 doubles pairings. App State's
Brooke Gruber and
Savannah Dada-Mascoll secured their fifth win as a tandem after defeating Angelina Blinova and Malannia Vashkevich 6-2.
The Mountaineers (12-6, 6-2 SBC) swept the Golden Eagles in singles action.
Dada-Mascoll defeated Alyssa Richter 6-2, 7-5 on Court 1 to improve her winning streak 15 consecutive matches.
Olwyn Ryan-Bovey garnered her first win as App State's No. 2 player with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Hannah Chambers. The Mountaineers secured wins from
Maggie Pate and
Naledi Manyube on Courts 3 and 4 to give App State the victory. Pate defeated Suhana Chamber 6-4, 6-2, while Manyube defeated Zenn Lim 6-3, 6-3.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will face South Alabama on Sunday in Mobile, Ala. The Jaguars come into Sunday's action after winning 4-3 against Marshall, which was in second place in the Sun Belt Conference. Sunday's match is slated for an 11 a.m. eastern start time.
