BOONE, N.C. – App State tennis picked up its first win under head coach Hannah Fetters with a 6-1 victory over Queens in its home opener of the 2024 campaign. The Mountaineers move to 1-1 on the season with some all-around exceptional play.
"I feel really excited, I think the girls did a good job today," said Fetters. "They were focused and had really good energy and that's what helped us do a good job today."
App State started the match strong by securing the doubles point early with a Queens forfeit on court No.3 and a victory on the No. 2 court from graduate student

The Mountaineers kept the momentum going into singles play as Manyube picked up her first win in the Black and Gold with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout on couth No. 3. Pate and Powell each improved to 2-0 in singles action, as Pate won 6-1, 6-2 at court No. 3 while Powell won 6-1, 6-1 at court No. 2. Senior
Brooke Gruber closed out her match on the No. 5 court with a 7-5, 6-3 victory, to lead App State to its first team win on the young 2024 season.
Up Next
The Mountaineers will face Lees-McRae on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Deer Valley Athletic Club. It will be the first match of the season for the nearby Bobcats as App State looks to ride the momentum going forward.
