MONROE, La. — Starting its league schedule with three straight road weekends, App State Softball headed home from ULM with its second Sun Belt series victory.
The Mountaineers took the first two games from the Warhawks before losing 2-1 in the series finale Sunday. App State (17-12, 5-4) also won two of three games at Texas State before taking the first game in a three-game trip to Georgia State.
The Mountaineers return to action Wednesday at North Carolina and play their first Sun Belt home game of the season Friday against Georgia Southern.
In the series finale against ULM, App State took the lead as
Emily Parrott scored on a third-inning single by
McKenzie McCullen, but the Warhawks (18-10, 4-5) moved ahead with an RBI single and run-scoring wild pitch in the fifth. The bases remained loaded with one out following McCullen's third-inning single, but a fielder's choice and flyout ended that frame to strand three baserunners.
McCullen, Parrott,
Kayt Houston,
Kati Waalk and
Addie Wray had one hit apiece for the Mountaineers.
Kaylie Northrop struck out four batters in five innings, and
Delani Buckner had two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 sixth.
