BUIES CREEK — App State split its two Southern Conference duals Saturday, winning 28-6 against Gardner-Webb after host Campbell stormed back to claim a 21-17 victory in a matchup of SoCon powers.

App State won the first four matches and held a 17-3 lead before Campbell won the last four matches, including two by fall.
The Mountaineers' hot start included
Codi Russell's 8-3 decision against Zurich Storm and
Sean Carter's 3-1 overtime decision against Gabe Hixenbaugh at 133. Tied at 1-all entering the one-minute Sudden Victory 1 period, Carter delivered a takedown with 11 seconds remaining.
Anthony Brito secured a 13-4 major decision against Shannon Hanna at 141 before App State pushed its lead to 13-0 with
Jonathan Millner's 10-5 decision against Jason Kraisser at 149.
Campbell got on the board heading into the midpoint break win a one-point victory — Ben Barton pulled out a 5-4 decision against
Cody Bond — and
Will Formato's 11-2 major decision against Austin Kraisser at 165 gave the Mountaineers a 17-3 advantage with four matches left.
The Camels' comeback started with Austin Murphy's 5-4 decision against
Thomas Flitz at 174. They jumped ahead 18-17 on six-point pins from Caleb Hopkins (against
Julian Gorring at 184) and Chris Kober (against
Mason Fiscella at 197). In a winner-take-all finale, Campbell's Taye Ghadiali recorded an 8-2 decision against heavyweight
Michael Burchell.

App State jumped out to a 25-0 lead while earning bonus points in two of those seven wins, and
Will Formato won a 2-1 decision against Rodrick Mosley at 165 in a matchup of wrestlers with unbeaten SoCon records entering the day.
Tied at 1-1 in the third period, a one-point stalling penalty against Mosley as Formato went for a takedown with 38 seconds left served as the deciding point. Formato ended the match with an offensive move that could have produced more points if time had not run out.
In another tight match,
Anthony Brito overcame a 4-1 deficit in an 8-4 decision against Trevon Majette at 141. Brito produced one takedown as the first period ended and another in the closing seconds of the second period.
Codi Russell started the dual with a 25-8 tech fall against Aedyn Concepcion at 125, and
Jonathan Millner added one early in the second period by a 16-0 score against Anthony Schiess at 149.

Mason Fiscella (197) won decisions against the Bulldogs. Tied at 2-2 entering the third period, Fiscella executed a key reversal to take control as his riding time had dipped to 1:02 against Jack Trautman.
