JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Appalachian State University women's tennis (4-3) suffered a 5-2 loss to North Florida (6-6) on Tuesday evening at the UNF Tennis Complex.
The Mountaineers went up against a strong Osprey team that boasts a 5-2 mark at home. App State fell in the doubles portion of the match while claiming only one singles contest.
After UNF won the first doubles contest on Court No. 1,
Rebecca Morse and
Jeannez Daniel tied up doubles thanks to a timely 6-2 triumph over Valentina Mariotto/Ana Paula Melilo.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead after
Teodora Sevo and Sandra Anglesjo were edged, 7-5, to Lucia Montano and Florencia Rossi.
UNF captured the first two matches that finished to take a commanding 3-0 lead.
Heidi Swope tallied the lone point for App, moving to 6-1 in singles after her 6-4, 6-3 victory over Rossi. Swope's win cut the deficit down to two points but the Ospreys clinched the match on Court No. 4.
Morse and
María José Zacarias' singles matches went to three sets, but both were unfinished.
Appalachian will look to bounce back on Thursday at 11 a.m. against Savannah State.
