ROCK HILL, S.C. –
Tristian Shaver won the pole vault,
Jordan Dale captured the high jump and the 4x100-meter relay team finished first to lead Appalachian State men's track & field at the ADIDAS/Winthrop Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Shaver cleared 16-6.75 (5.05m) to capture the pole vault. His mark was nearly a foot higher than the next closest finisher.
Dale cleared 6-8.75 (2.05m) to win the high jump. His mark represents a PR and also moves into a tie for the 10th highest height in program history.
The 4x100-meter relay tandem of
Brenton Ervin,
De'Shawn Ballard,
Elliott Graves and
Jabari Johnson crossed first in the relay in 41.00 seconds.
Graves qualified sixth overall for the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56 seconds. He finished sixth in the finals, shaving .03 seconds off his time to finish in 14.53 seconds. Graves also placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in 55.03 seconds, with
Dylan Blankenship finishing right behind in 10
th with a time of 55.13 seconds.
App State saw three finish in the top-five in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Lawson Benfield crossed second in 9:38.97, with
Zachary Mercer finishing fourth in 9:45.76 and
Sawyer Gwyn-Rowsom placing fifth with a time of 9:49.27.
Sean Doyle was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.33.
In the discus,
Michael Albert finished sixth with a toss of 153-2 (46.42m) and
Peter Kenn placed seventh with a mark of 151-6 (46.19m). Albert also recorded an eighth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 48-2.00 (14.68m), while Kenn was ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 173-2 (52.79m).
App State will complete as a split squad next weekend, sending athletes to the Raleigh Relays and the Pepsi Florida Relays on Mar. 29 and Mar. 30.
