LEXINGTON, Va. -- Appalachian State men's track & field finished second of seven teams at the VMI Team Challenge on Saturday.
Western Carolina won the team title with 157.5 points, with the Mountaineers finishing second with 122.5 points.
In all, App State won three individual titles in the meet.
Tristian Shaver captured the pole vault for the third time this season, clearing 16-2.75.
Jordan Dale cleared 6-6.25 to win the high jump and
De'Shawn Ballard won the 200-meter dash in 21.70 seconds. Ballard also took fourth in the 60-meter dash in 7.05 seconds.
In the 5,000-meter run, App State saw four runners finish in the top five.
Ryan Brown was second in 15:09.46,
Ben Cignarale was third in 15:15.96,
Michael Flanagan was fourth in 15:21.75 and
Lawson Benfield placed fifth with a time of 15:40.12.
Elliott Graves posted a new season-best in the 60-meter hurdles, crossing second in 8.17 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Jabari Johnson,
Sean Doyle, Ballard and Graves finished second with a time of 3:24.53.
Zachary Mercer was fourth in the one-mile run in 4:32.16 and Doyle placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 1:58.30.
In the 3,000-meter run,
Dakota Mendenhall placed third in 8:38.13 and
Gable Dershem was fifth with a time of 8:46.95.
Also in the high jump,
Daniel Lauffenburger was fourth with a mark of 6-2.25 and
Andrew Underdal placed fifth with a mark of 6-2.25.
The weight throw saw two Mountaineers set personal bests.
Peter Kenn recorded a fourth place finish with a toss of 53-5.00 and
Zachary Weinstein was right behind in fifth, covering 52-5.25.
App State will be action again next weekend at the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational, hosted by East Tennessee State on Feb. 1 and Feb. 2.
