MOBILE, ALA. – Appalachian State softball ends the weekend on a high note with a 2-0 shutout against the South Alabama Jaguars to take the series finale.
App State won its 15
th game of the season, surpassing its number of wins from last season with eight games still remaining. With today's win, the Mountaineers have also exceeded their number of Sun Belt Conference wins in a season since joining the conference.
After the game was delayed four and a half hours due to rain, the Mountaineers battled the Jaguars through seven innings. In the top of the fourth inning,
Keri White led off with a bunt for a single to touch base.
Jenny Dodd advanced her to second base on a sacrifice bunt before
Heather Josey smashed a double to the wall in left field for an RBI and the Mountaineers' first of two runs.
The second run came in the fifth inning with two outs.
Avery Wheatley singled to third base and advanced into scoring position at second base on a throwing error by South Alabama's third baseman.
Ally Walters laid down a bunt and reached on a throwing error committed by the catcher attempting to get the out while Wheatley scored.
The Apps had four hits on the day to contribute to the win.
Kenzie Longanecker struck out three Jaguars and limited South Alabama to five hits in her first complete game shutout of the season. Longanecker improves to a 6-16 record while the team boosts to a 15-29 overall record.
